valentine penpal letter

valentine letter
Here's your weekly mail inspiration- the last penpal letter I sent!

The weather has been absolutely beautiful here in Alabama so I'm headed out on a mini backpacking trip for the weekend. I'm looking forward to getting out in the woods and sitting around a campfire after a long day of hiking. Does anyone else love a good campfire as much as I do? That's one of my favorite things about camping, fire with late night conversations and good company. I'm bringing my camera so I'll share my adventures with you next week! I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

nashville roadtrip

For Valentine's weekend, my girlfriends and I decided to take a trip to Nashville. We spent our visit going to way too many coffee shops, exploring the city, eating lots of delicious food, and crashing a couple's romantic engagement on a hill at sunset. It was the perfect weekend and I wouldn't have wanted to spend it any other way.

valentine's day

valentine's dayToday I am off on a girl's trip with my two best friends, to spend Valentine's weekend in Nashville. It's our tradition to have a "date night" each year when Valentine's day comes around, and this year we decided to make a whole weekend out of it! I'm very excited to get away from school for a few days and spend time with my friends. Roadtripping and jamming to our favorite music, exploring the city, a sleepover every night, it's going to be the best weekend getaway.

valentine's dayFor our fancy dinner date this weekend, I will probably opt for my classic red lip and winged eyeliner look that I go to almost anytime I dress up. I haven't decided exactly what I'm going to wear. I'd love to wear this sheer, beaded black dress I bought from Free People a few years ago, but it's going to be a bit chilly so I might end up going with something a little warmer.

As always, here is this year's Valentine's playlist. You can check out previous playlists here and here. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

DIY valentines

DIY valentines
As a college student, it seems like most people I know take an extreme stance on Valentine's Day- either they love it or they absolutely despise it. Or they only appreciate it as a way to get discounted candy on February 15th. Personally, I love the holiday because it's the perfect excuse for me to show everyone in my life how much I love them by baking lots of treats and making pretty gifts (which, if you've been following my blog for very long you know that's pretty much my favorite thing to do whether or not there's a holiday).

DIY valentines
Since grade school my favorite thing about Valentine's Day has been making valentines to give to all my friends. I've started making some of my valentines for this year and I wanted to give you some DIY inspiration so you can make them too!

DIY valentines
I made the first one by creating a mini card out of kraft paper, and cutting a heart out of the front. I layered paper and stickers and embellishments in the inside, so it it peeked through the heart cutout!

DIY valentines
The second one is a mini floral envelope inside a glassine bag. I wrapped it with washi tape and sealed it with a heart sticker.

DIY valentines
The last valentine is a card made by layering scrapbook paper and decorating with a tag and embellishments.

What kind of valentines are you making this year? I'm still planning a few other little gifts for my friends, so I'll be sure to show you all when I'm finished! I have some DIY valentines from previous years that you can see here and here. And if you want some more inspiration you can check out the Valentine's Day tag on my blog!

valentine's DIY // xoxo

v8
So tomorrow's Valentine's day. I love my friends, and I love making things for my friends, so I made them valentines.

v1
v2
The idea for these was super simple; it's just a mini envelope attached to a piece of kraft paper. I stamped out the words "happy valentine's day" and doodled hearts around the edges.

v3 v5
I put a small pack of candy in each envelope, but you could put whatever you want in them- maybe stickers or small photos or a love note?

v6
I really love how these turned out, and I can't wait to give them to my friends!

valentine's playlist
You might remember my Valentine's playlist of sickeningly sweet love songs from last year. This year I created a more refined collection of songs, much more subtle, but still very sweet.

Happy Valentine's Day xoxo

valentine's date

rose
I spent Valentine's day with two of my favorite girls, and I have to say, this was one of the best Valentine's days I've had. I played my valentine's playlist and we danced and sung as we all got ready together. We went to a wonderful little French/Italian restaurant called Primeaux. The atmosphere was like a Parisian bistro, and the food was amazing! Afterwards, we went back home and exchanged valentines and stayed up talking and laughing and eating chocolate. We actually went to bed before the sun began to rise, and woke up several hours later to a bright and sunny day and pancakes for breakfast. ♥

Here are a few photos from the night.

darling
Happy Valentine's Day! ♥ I have spent the past few days listening to sickeningly sweet love songs and making valentines for my friends. I love love love this holiday because 1) it gives me and excuse to make gifts for my friends and 2) everything is so pretty! In the past, I've always baked lots of treats to give to all my friends. But since I'm now living away from home and don't have the luxury of a full kitchen, I made little gift bags instead!

supplies
As much as I love all the pinks and reds of Valentine's Day, I like them in small doses. So I used this cool map paper to make the gift bags, and decorated them with subtle hints of pink and red.

valentine bag
I made these gift bags following How About Orange's tutorial, but instead of using envelopes I just folded up the map paper and sealed the edges. I filled the bags with conversation hearts, chocolate, mini nail files (I left this out of the bags for guys), and a little paper valentine.

caliente
I made a different Valentine for each of my friends, with inside jokes or sarcastic remarks that only they would understand. ;)

lovely
I painted each of their names on pieces of kraft paper and attached them to the front of the bag with my favorite floral washi tape.

love letter
I punched holes in the top of each bag and threaded through red twine with two little tags I made, and tied it with a bow.

valentines
Here are a few more of the valentines I made for my friends (and I have to say this disclaimer; I stole a few of these ideas from Pinterest!).

valentines
I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine's Day! Go hug your friends, kiss somebody lovely, listen to love songs, dance under the stars, and be enchanted ♥
