DIY Room Decor for Spring

Spring is almost here (already here if you live in the south!) and I couldn't be happier! I love springtime mostly because it means we're just a few months from summer, my favorite season! To celebrate the warm, sunny weather I made some pretty decorations for my room. I put together a video tutorial so you can spruce up your room too!

desk tour + craft organization

I've been wanting to make a video showing you where I craft and how I organize all my supplies, and I finally put it together! I love seeing other crafters' spaces and getting inspired by where they work, so I thought this would be a fun video to do. I hope you enjoy!

diy terrarium

I love having plants in my room and I especially love terrariums because they're like a mini forest right on your desk! I recently made a new terrarium and I put together a DIY to show you how I did it! I think this would be a great gift to make someone for Christmas!


You'll need some sort of container, sand, and plants like moss and succulents. I found my glass box at Hobby Lobby, but you could also check out the thrift store or use a recycled glass bottle from your pantry!


Take your succulent out of its planter and gently remove most of the dirt from it's roots.


Place it in your container and surround it with sand.


Cover the sand with moss. And that's it!


I also planted another succulent and moss in a little teapot planter that I found at the thrift store.


I'm excited to add these to my plant collection! Succulents are one of my favorites because they're so easy to take care of, and they usually survive pretty well on their own. Happy planting!

odds & ends

I went to the beach with my friends for a few days last week, and ever since I got back I've been spending all my free time doing some spring cleaning! To all my penpals, I have not forgotten about you! Sorry for such a long delay in my response, but I promise I will have something in the mail for you soon. :)


I recently made these raspberry bars, which are super yummy, and they're raw/vegan! I used this recipe, and it turned out really well! I always tell you guys the changes I make to recipes, but I didn't need to change much in this one! I did use fresh raspberries instead of frozen, and I added a few less dates (because I didn't want them to be too sweet). Also, I did not add the icing on top of the bars, but they were still delicious without it!


And speaking of spring cleaning, I recently redecorated my bedroom (since I am currently living at home for the summer). So maybe a room tour will be in the near future? ♥

college life

I've been at school for more than 2 weeks now, and I've finally found the time to photograph a dorm tour! The lighting isn't very good, so these photos are going to be highly processed.

First of all, I'd like to say thank you to everyone who sent me kind words these past few weeks, you have helped me more than you know! ♥

So on August 17th, I drove 3.5 hours to my university for move-in day. My family came to help me unpack and get settled into my new home. We walked around the campus a little, and then it was time to say goodbye. Just to say that it was hard is an understatement. Because once my family left, I was on my own for real.

Luckily, I already knew one of my roommates (we are friends from high school), so we kept ourselves busy and explored a little.


The type of dorm I am living in is like a little apartment. I share it with three other girls; we have a living room, a tiny kitchen, two bathrooms, and each of us has our own bedroom. I am so grateful I was able to get this type of dorm because I get the best of both worlds; I get to share it with other people, but at the end of the day I have my own room to go to.


As you can see, I chose the lavender comforter! (Remember this post?) I brought a lot of decorations from my old bedroom at home.


I have lots of string lights hanging up because it's so much nicer than the florescent lighting (it makes my room look a lot cozier too!).


There is a little alcove on the other side of my room for my desk. I've hung up some pictures and decorations, and strung some garland up above.

My friend Allison gave me this adorable little kitty that sits next to me at my desk.


I've lined my windowsill with a few odds and ends.


This is our living room. We've tried to make it look a little homier by hanging up string lights, curtains, a clock, and adding a few other things like picture frames and a throw blanket.


And now about college life.

Classes started a few days after I moved in. This semester I'm taking: French, 3D Design, Astronomy, PreCal, and a fine arts class where I get to attend different art events in my city (plays, concerts, symphonies, etc...) and write about it. I really love all of my classes. I have not declared a major yet, so I just registered for classes in things that I'm interested in.

Since I moved in, I have met so many new people. Everyone is so friendly, you can just walk down the hall and become friends with whoever you pass. Most days I meet my roommate and a bunch of other new friends for lunch, it's a lot of fun getting to hang out with a big group of people. We've gone out into town a few nights for dinner, when we're ready for a break from dining hall food. My campus is huge and beautiful, I love walking everywhere. There are several artsy clubs and organizations that I'm planning on getting involved in, I'm really excited about them. I have no time to be bored here. When I'm not working on homework, there are so many fun things to do, like zumba and yoga classes at the gym, movie nights with friends, ballroom dancing lessons (yes, my roommate and I actually signed up for that!), exploring the campus/city, and so much more!

College life is great. I'm so excited for everything that is in store for me these next four years!

craft party

Yesterday I invited two of my friends over for a mini crafting party to make a few cute things for our dorm rooms. It was dreary and rainy outside, so it was the perfect afternoon for crafts. We made rose tealights, decoupaged coasters, and little floral magnets.


I absolutely love the little rose tealights we made. We took apart fake flowers and glued them around a battery tealight. I found this wonderful idea and tutorial at Smart School House.

We painted flower cabochons and made them into small magnets to hang on our fridge.

I can't wait to decorate my dorm with the things we made!


It was so much fun doing all the crafts with my friends, and it was a great way to get together before we all move away. Even if you're not heading off to college in a few months, plan a girls day with all your friends and make some of those pinterest projects that I know you've been meaning to do. ;)

help me choose!

I need your help! I am trying to decide between two comforters for my dorm bed. One is a dusty lavender that kind of fades from light to dark, with a white floral pattern. The other is peachy pink and ruched. I normally gravitate towards the really soft, pastel colors (like the lavender one), but I'm also loving that solid pink one.

My dorm will have off-white colored walls and of course the orange-y furniture that you find at all colleges. It also has a dark brown carpet, but I'm hoping to find a light colored rug to put over it.

 This lamp and laundry basket will be going in my dorm. I think they go well with either comforter.

collection of dishes

Knowing I would be moving out of my parent's house this fall, I started collecting dishes this past year to take with me. Everytime I went thrifting with my friends or shopping with my mom, I would keep an eye out for pretty cups or bowls or anything like that.


I found these beautiful lavender, fleur-de-lis glass cups at World Market. I fell in love with them and they were on sale! I figured it was meant to be, so I bought a set of them.


I found all of my teacups (like that light pink glass one) at thrift stores and antique shops. I found an adorable ceramic tea container at TJ Maxx, and I also got a small "Sugar" version (that you can see in the top photo).


I filled it with a variety of my favorite teas.


I found these little glass bowls at a local antique shop. I thought they would be so adorable to use for ice cream


Also at the antique shop, I found this pretty soap dish. Underneath the soap is the engraving of a couple's initials and the year 1961. So sweet!


Look who showed up at my mini photo shoot! Of course he just decided to make himself at home right where I was taking photos.

I hope you enjoyed taking a peek at all the pretty things I've collected! I move in 23 days. This is the first time I've counted down, it's a little frightening, but very exciting!

pretty jars {DIY}

I have a pretty big glass jar collection, mostly recycled from the pantry. They have so many uses; for storage, to wrap a gift, to hold water for painting, and they even look nice just lined up on a shelf! But the lids are all sorts of colors, and I don't want to display a pickle brand when I use them. So I bought some spray paint and gave these jars a new life!


If you have some empty jars, you should try this too! After you paint the lids, gather some pretty embellishments to decorate your jars with.


I use small jam jars to store a few of my craft supplies.


I decorated the lid of this jar with gold hardware and tied a tag around it. I filled it with washi tape and it looks like an adorable gift to give!


This is a very inexpensive way to spruce up your room and recycle while you're at it! Let me know if you try it, I'd love to see how you decorate your jars!

Collect some pretty jars {recycled or from the thrift store are the best} and fill them with little things that make you happy {ribbon, charms, golden stars, sparkles, dried flower petals, love notes, paper beads, etc...} then line them up on a shelf for a lovely decoration.

When I went shopping with my friends (read the last post), we also stopped by the beach. Now those of you who have been following my blog for a while know how much I love the beach; I would spend everyday of my life there if I could. I collected some sand during our trip to bring a little of the beach into my room.  Here is the "beach in a jar".


If you want to make one also, you will need:

• a glass jar  recycled from the pantry
• sand  gathered at the beach
• seashells  collected from many trips to the ocean

Fill your jar with clean, dry, sand.


Arrange sea life however you like.

This ridiculously easy DIY would look great decorating your room or make the perfect gift for the beach-lover in your life.
