So since my family and I won't be spending Christmas with my grandparents, we are just bringing all of our Christmas gifts for them with us. I wanted to show you guys these crocheted coasters I made for my grandma.
I used this free pattern from The Yvestown Blog. I altered it slightly and added an extra row because I used thinner yarn. I am really happy with how they turned out! They were easy to make and didn't take too long.
The yarn I used is so pretty! It has gold strands running through it so it kind of looks sparkly. I bought extra yarn because I liked it so much and I think I'll use it to crochet myself a hat. Unless I find something better to make with it.

I know that this is an old post, but I want to know if I could make these? I have recently learned to crochet and have been working on a cowl scarf (which I will post about when it's finished). I haven't done anything fancy yet, but I happen to have very thin yarn (meant for crocheting)and a small crochet hook. For someone who is something of a beginner but has a little experience (emphasis on a little) would this be possible? Basically I'm asking how hard it is.
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm so excited you're learning how to crochet! For a beginner, these might be slightly difficult, but I think you can do it. The pattern just uses a chain stitch, double crochet, and slip stitch (I think) and you probably already know those (if you don't, they are easy to learn). When I first started crocheting, the best thing to help me was youtube. Without it, I probably wouldn't have been able to crochet. I would find a pattern I liked, and then go on youtube and watch how to do all the different kinds of stitches. After a try or two, I could do it! So in this pattern for example, the first step is to chain 6 and form a ring with a slip stitch. If you don't know how to do that, or don't understand the pattern, youtube "how to crochet a chain stitch circle". (Ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzlIGtGtPvY). It is so much easier to learn by watching someone do it then to read directions and try to figure it out. Keep practicing! When I started, I would begin crocheting, and then realize it wasn't turning out right, so I would unravel it and start over. It's frustrating, but you learn from your mistakes.
