I made a lifestyle change and decided to go vegan almost 2 years ago. I never announced it on my blog or throughout social media because I didn't want people to judge me, label me a tree-hugging hippie, or assume I'm going to try to convert them to a vegan diet. I feel like there is such a stigma surrounding the idea of veganism. But the longer I am vegan, the more passionate about it I am becoming. I want to stand up for the rights of animals. I don't want to stay silent on what I believe in.
It is incredibly speciesist for humans to think that they are superior to all other animals. To think that killing another living creature is okay. To protect cats and dogs under laws but to torture pigs and cows. To have buildings specifically designed to kill. When did we become such a violent species?
When I see a burger, I no longer see a delicious meal. I see a tortured and murdered animal. They say you are what you eat, and if you're eating a creature that lived it's whole life in fear and anxiety, you will be consuming that negative energy. If you eat a healthy and bountiful diet of fruits and vegetables and grains that grew in the sunshine, the beauty of your food is going to shine through you.
I want to live a life of kindness and compassion towards all living creatures. I want to live a long and healthy life. I want to live a life of love.
I don't judge people who still chose to eat animal products. I want to educate people so they know the truth about the horrors of factory farms, and can make their own informed decision on what they eat. I truly believe that if everyone understood the horrible things going on industrial agriculture, no one would continue eating animal products.
If you are vegan too, yay! I'd love to know! And if you're considering going vegan but don't know where to start, feel free to email me! I'd love to help you out. And if you've never even thought about veganism, I urge you to do a little research and understand where your food is coming from. I have some resources listed below to get you started!
I want to start another series on my blog about veganism. Posts about anything from transitioning to a vegan diet, to meal ideas, to how to respond to criticism. Let me know what you would like to see a post about!

A documentary explaining veganism from an environmental perspective (also on Netflix!)
Jordan, I unapologetically love you!! 💙 I've been vegan for 10 months now, and it has been so amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with you on the topic of energy... Now I connect so much more with my food and personally I have never had such a positive relationship with it in my life. Eating in abundance, getting in all the nutrients, fuelling my body to have energy for life? HECK YEAH.
On the ethical level, I found myself beginning this great journey of compassion. It doesn't stop at food... I am getting more and more conscious of how to treat every being with kindness and radiate positivity and kindness. Every creature is worthy of a wonderful life, right?
But even though I try to live as positively as possible I sometimes get so overwhelmed by the fact that so much cruelty is still happening... As you mentioned, it is perfectly fine to cuddle your pets, but cows, chicken and pigs are not even given decent spaces to live. And it pains me that I used to not care about that for the greater part of my life!! :( But here's an incredible speech by Melanie Joy that explains the concept of "Carnism" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0VrZPBskpg that's the one that turned me vegan :)
I'd really love it if you'd share some recipes! (I have yet to pluge myself into vegan bakery...) And how you respond to criticism :)
Have a wonderful day xx
Susanne it makes me so so happy to hear that you are vegan! I completely agree with you about becoming more conscious about treating everyone with kindness since transitioning to vegan. I feel like I have become so much more positive in general. And I too am constantly overwhelmed by all the cruelty still happening in the world. I've found that most vegans are that way, they feel things so deeply. Thanks for the link to the speech, I will watch it tonight!
DeleteLots of love xo
Yet another thing we have in common ;).
ReplyDeleteYou pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. Thank you for posting this! I've been meaning to do the same type of post but it's hard not come across too harsh. I think you worded it perfectly :).
Thank you so much for saying that! I am always afraid to talk about veganism because I never want people to feel threatened when I do. I would love to hear your take on veganism if you do decide to do a post about it. As more and more people become vegan and talk about it I think it will become normalized rather than stigmatized. ♥︎
DeleteDear Jordan, I am glad to know that you decided to stop eating animals.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I think to become vegetarian because as you said, it's unfair to kill cows or many other animals. The worst is when you think to the way they are killed.
The only reason I am not yet vegetarian is that I don't love vegetables ^^ So how do you do, what are your favorite recipes and how do you manage to be vegan when you eat with your family or your friends?
But why did you decided to become vegan and not just vegetarian?
You shouldn't be afraid to speak about veganism because people begin to understand that it's a good thing. Be proud of being vegan! :)
I wish you a nice week-end ♡
Thank you so much Elisa!
DeleteI definitely understand what you mean about not loving vegetables. I found that since I started eating more vegetables, I have developed a taste for them! I used to not like them so much, but since I started eating them everyday I love them now! (And also I have lots of recipes to cook them in delicious ways). I will definitely do a post about recipes, and I also want to talk about how to eat vegan around friends and family. So be on the look out for that coming up! :)
I decided to become vegan rather than just vegetarian because even dairy products and eggs cause a lot of harm to the animals, even if they aren't killed. The animals still unfortunately suffer :(
Thank you for saying that, it really means a lot!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well ♥︎♥︎♥︎
